When you research the special project to identify them, you are usually presented with a few options as how to approach them. If you choose to do a Project to study them, you will get an Empire wide bonus of 5% evasion. The Drake has high armor and no shields. I was able to kill it with a 20k fleet of corvettes and plasma cruisers only. Just have enough corvettes to use as cannon fodder and the cruisers will nuke the drake easily.
